I totally agree with this. In fact, in the case that there are more than one notifications on the screen, they should be grouped together in a single window. Users should dictate how large the window is. This is what they've done in iOS5, whereby if I receive a text message when my phone is locked, I receive a typical notification in the center of the screen. However, if I receive 5 text messages while my screen is locked - they are all displayed sequentially in a feed just under the date and time box. Extremely helpful to get an "at-a- glance" update when you've got a bunch of stuff coming in.
