Hi, Lion 10.7.4, Growl 1.4 I have the same problem, but figured out a workaround based on the discussion here (Thanks for the documentation of how Growl works now). Go to your apps folder and view the contents of growl. Make a symlink for Growl.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/GrowlLauncher.app. Copy the symlink into /Applications and clean up the name if your like me and don't like messy names. Then go to System Prefs/ Users and Groups and add the new GrowlHelper link into your login items. This has been working for me, and persists through reboots.
