Hello, so Growl 1.3 and up (which is Lion+ only) uses a new networking system known as GNTP that is incompatible with the networking system used in 1.2.x and older (its far more than just a different port). The old system was unreliable, not very diagnosable, and not cross platform friendly. There are ways they could theoretically be made to communicate, but none have actually been developed by us or any third party that I've heard of.
