Not wanting to start anything here, but most of Mike's concerns have been raised on here by many other developers - especially those around Sandboxing and the terrible issues around breaking compatibility with earlier versions of Growl. The dropping of GrowlNet over the more complex GNTP has been frustrating too.
The other side of the coin is that, while ML's built-in Notification Center is less flexible than Growl, it's a core part of the operating system and therefore has better support. I only post this as there's been a lot of "I can't believe it" type comments and, as a long time Growl developer who's now switched to NC, I can sympathise with Mike.
