Unfortunately we can't make people update, and since QT doesn't use our framework, app's can't just be updated to a newer framework. QT has known of this issue for quite awhile (since we shipped 1.3), and the fix is a relatively minor change to a single line of code. They use our applescript bridge and use the opening of "tell application "GrowlHelperApp"" instead of "tell application id "com.Growl.GrowlHelperApp"", which would work across pre app store and app store versions of Growl. Probably some QT devs out there use a patched copy of QT that has the change, but obviously not everyone does. QT 4.8's source appears to still uses tell application "GrowlHelperApp".
