Growl never did track changes without GrowlTunes or some other application.
We'll be submitting a new version of GrowlTunes soon that contains a lot of
changes to how it works. :)

Growl 2.1 (not 2.0.1) is the first version to help fix that clicking
problem really. It took a while to figure out the right course of action
for all parties, typically we try avoid getting devs to update the
framework. But we can't do that this time. That'll hopefully be out soon as
well.
