Currently this is not possible in Python. In the master branch <https://github.com/grpc/grpc/blob/master/src/python/grpcio/grpc/__init__.py#L1276>, there is an options field that works in the same way, and you can set grpc .max_receive_message_length/grpc.max_send_message_length.
This will be included in the 1.1 release which should be out relatively soon.
