I have no trouble to cross-compile ppc port on my amd64 machine.

Oh, it's powerpc-emu. That changes everything.
Well I am using the debian package rules which build both emu and
ieee1275.
I am not using emu, but I am building it. Building doesn't take long
on a p710 after all.
