Please do use version 3.7, from http://www.gnuplot.org/ -- use
for instance
ftp://ftp.gnuplot.org/pub/gnuplot/gp371w32.zip
or
ftp://ftp.gnuplot.org/pub/gnuplot/gp371cyg.zip
for the windows version. They should work.
(the 3.6 message is from the days that 3.6 was still in beta...)
