To answer your question about Java WS Core, as a Globus software component I think it's under-documented and under-utilized (chicken-and-egg problem, no doubt). It's a relatively easy hoop to jump through for a user who wants to evaluate the Globus software. I'm not sure why you don't leverage that capability.
In any event, I'll add it to my documentation here. I have detailed installation instructions for installing and using JWS Core on Windows and UNIX, so I'll just add a note about advisories.
