It sounds like you:
1) had a cert
2) made a proxy
3) delegated that proxy to myproxy
4) re-requested a proxy from myproxy.

That would put four certs in the chain. You can reduce it if you put your real cert in myproxy from the very beginning, then requesting a proxy from myproxy would put you at the two BEGIN CERTs you have in a normal proxy - the proxy's and the usercert's.

The install was/is originally built from source but I also tried
suse-ia64 binary installer to no effect.  These ia64 systems are
running RHEL4 update 4. I noticed earlier that ia64-to-ia64 transfers
commence but then quickly bog down and appear to hang (I can still
Ctrl-C out of it).


I'll have results from this tomorrow.
