I think it would be better, if you extract the files under Linux and not under Windows. Under Linux you can use William's commands to extract the archive. Only the Java part of globus is runnable under Windows. You can find the Java part on the following website: http://www.globus.org/toolkit/downloads/4.2.1/#wscore_bin A good starting point for installation is http://www.globus.org/toolkit/docs/4.2/4.2.1/admin/quickstart/#quickstart.
