On behalf of the Globus Toolkit 5.2 development team I am pleased to announce
the 1st *Beta* version for GT 5.2. We are calling this release GT 5.1.3. GT
5.1.3 is now feature complete. The next release will be GT 5.2.0. So, the
time is now to jump in and test this 5.1.3 release and report any problems.
We're hoping to release GT 5.2.0 by the end of November.

The 5.1.3 release comprises a source installer, binary RPM packages for all GT
components, and binary Debian packages for non-GRAM components. Soon, we'll be
adding Debian packages for GRAM.

Also, I'm happy to let you know that GT 5.2 will be protocol and client API
compatible with GT 5.0 (e.g. 5.2 clients will work with GT 5.0 services, and
visa versa.)

Highlights of this GT 5.1.3 release as compared to 5.0.4 is largely the native
packaging enhancements that simplify the installation, configuration and
startup of the GT services: GRAM, GridFTP, and MyProxy. For GRAM, 5.2 also
includes a number of scalability and reliability improvements found from
working with OSG.

Additional Notes:
        1) *All* GT 5.1.3 package version numbers have been incremented in
order to avoid any confusion with existing Globus Debs and RPMs that predate GT
5.2.
        2) We are providing a Globus repo for the various native packages.
        3) We have started the process to become package managers / maintainers
for various RPM and Debian repos and will be including the Globus packages into
these repos as soon as we get that process worked out.

We look forward to and encourage your feedback on GT5.2. Thanks for your
support of Globus software.

Viva Globus!
