The Globus Toolkit uses OpenSSL for crypto operations, so it depends on which version it is built against. I think OpenSSL 0.9.8o is the earliest with sha256 support by default.
Note that older versions of OpenSSL do not support the TLS 1.1 and 1.2 protocols and the new cipher suites that those imply, so you might have limited compatibility with newer deployments if you were to use code from an older OpenSSL version.
