I use my mGTD as a general notebook. The file's current size is about 4MB. Some of the "for each tiddler" actions such as task checkoffs/ updates are sluggish on my netbook, but otherwise, its performance is acceptable.
Note: I use DropBox for cross-platform synchronization, so the latest copy (an backups) are available on all my machines.
