I find my Ubuntu machines much faster than my windows machines (even when using the same machine with dual boot). I expect a slight delay though because my file is so large. I new file should be pretty nippy.
I also find firefox faster than IE. If you're using windows, IE and a USB drive, then they are probably all combining to slow you down. Maybe just get into the habit of looking for the next think to input every time you make an edit. Then you wont notice anything. By the time you look back at the screen it will have caught up.
