I thought tag renaming was released with 0.2. After a quick check it seems you're right: it is not included in 0.2. Then it changes everything: yes the simplest path would then to ship 0.2.1 with this feature being disabled. I agree with this choice, and if it's alright for everyone, let's do that. If I'm right, we just need to comment out one line in tagtree.py, so that's quite easy to do.
