Public bug reported: I'd very much recommend you to use python-distutils-extra for your build system [1] [2], which will help you in handling translations and reducing the size and complexity of your setup.py file. It will also allow you to get rid of the custom scripts/generate_mofile.sh and scripts/generate_pofile.sh scripts. Python-distutils-extra is used by many Ubuntu applications and all generated applications for Quickly, for example.
