Is it normally safe to assume (and choke on a g_assert) that "~/.gvfs" mounts are available for non-local-path files (like sftp://whatever...)? Or is that bad behaviour?

Is there an elegant way for an app to demand that .gvfs mount points be made available? What's best practice here?
