Talking about that... we need a plan for how to handle the gvfs filechooser backend for 2.22. I think it will be best to put it in libgnomeui, next to (or replacing) the gnome-vfs backend thats already there. After 2.22 we can look at moving it over to gtk itself, or doing something better.
