Granted that it is not trivial, it could still be done if such a feature gets enough traction to motivate developer time. Web browsers do the conversion from WebGL to either desktop GL, GLES or even D3D. Emscripten does to some extent a bit of conversion from desktop GL to WebGL (Or did I miss what you meant by the difficulty of generating client-side code?). In any case, thank you very much for bringing GL to Gtk3. It is not clear to me whether this is meant to be officially supported at the Gtk level, and I dearly hope it is.
