Maybe that's the reason why you couldn't make auto* do what you wanted it to 
do...

Of course you're right when you say that auto* is far from being perfect (to 
say the least), but for our projects it has proven to be extremely usefull 
(./configure even works correctly under Windoze using mingw).
Sometimes I had to dig very deep into the docs but at last it worked.

I can't imagine GTK-Gnutella being more complicated than the gcc-compiler, so 
there MUST be a way to use auto*...

Anyway, the decision is made, the changes are done, so it's a little late for 
this  discussion IMHO ;-)

As long as metaconfig works as intended it's fine with me ;-)
And since gtk-gnutella is a very nice and stable application I don't care that 
much for the auto-configuration tools used ;-)
