Try "apt-get install locales" then select at least es_ES.UTF-8 in the
installation dialogue. After that it should work with
LC_ALL=es_ES.UTF-8 - not a plain "es" though. This problem is not
specific to gtk-gnutella, I verified this with gpg (GnuPG). I've also
noticed that debian provides special packages for Mozilla, OpenOffice
etc. for different locales. That may explain why that one works for
you.
