Hi Karlan, Quoting Karlan Mitchell from ml.softs.gtk-gnutella.devel: :Hello, I'm Karlan, if u didn't notice, and i'm new to the devel list. :However, I'm very proficient in C and network programming, and love :gtk-gnutella, so I'm willing to contribute some time to it.
First, welcome to gtk-gnutella. Second, this is great news! We're currently highly understaffed. Any help is welcome. :My first question is: what is preventing gkt-gnutella from running on :Win32?..... pthreads, file system stuff, ........ :If you can collaborate them into a list, I would be glad to help in :porting gtk-gnutella to Win32. (btw. I have many function I have :written which :wrap Win32's API using POSIX calls, such as socketpair()) I'd say the main reason is that none of the current and past developers were motivated in making it work, probably because none of them have / had any sufficient experience or access to a Win32 platform. Jeroen has been starting to compile GTKG on Windows using mingw32. Since Configure cannot perform cross-compile checks, he manually generated a config.sh suitable for mingw32. You should talk to him. :Second: :I'm currently writing a large set of tree hashing functions for files :using SHA1, and it was my understanding gtk-gnutella doesn't have tree :hasing :functions.....is this correct?. . . There's some code contributed by Jeroen, but unfinished and unplugged. Tree-hashing is only the top of the iceberg though. I mean, getting it done correctly is important, but the real meat is getting THEX done. That means storing / exchanging THEX and bitprints. Developers usually stick around #gtk-gnutella on irc.freenode.net. You're welcome to join there. But we're currently all in Europe. Anyway, don't let that demotivate you. There's plenty of work required and we need someone with your profile aboard the team. Raphael ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
