Maybe some weird feature of Lynx (Lynx isn't a full-blown UNIX
is it, just a POSIX real time OS? Maybe they implement select() in an
insanely broken way?)
I think to even guess at this though we'd need to know what your code
does, and maybe what part of the code is using CPU.
