You just had the widgets swapped in the signal connect call. The way I think
about this kind of signal handling is "the event on the drawing area (first
object) should be reported on the status bar (second object)."
Original:
gtk_signal_connect_object(GTK_OBJECT (status_bar)
,"motion_notify_event"
,(GtkSignalFunc) motion_notify_event
,GTK_OBJECT (drawing_area));
New:
gtk_signal_connect_object(GTK_OBJECT (drawing_area)
,"motion_notify_event"
,(GtkSignalFunc) motion_notify_event
,GTK_OBJECT (status_bar));
