non-scrolling gtktext background pixmap?

is there any way to make the background pixmap of a GtkText widget
non-scrolling? i am developing an irc client in Gtk+ and wish to use the
GtkText widget, but when i set the bgpixmap, it scrolls the image, which
is not a good thing in this case. any help is greatly appreciated :]
