Try using glib/gtk 1.2.9 instead, no sense in fighting bugs already fixed.

Did you follow its advice and set LD_LIBRARY_PATH, if needed?  This will
probably fix your problem (or at least it did the LAST 4-5 people who
asked this on a Sun)....

If not.....

Where was glib installed?

Did you look at config.log and see what error messages, if any, you got?
