After much analysis I figured out that if I dereference a global pixmap pointer and then redefine it in configure event handler ALL IS WELL.
If I don't dereference but just keep drawing on top of old global pixmap pointer in new configure event handler calls then NOTHING gets drawn on screen. HOW COME PIXMAP MUST BE NEWLY CREATED IN EACH CONFIGURE EVENT CALL?
