Well as far as I understand this issue with list stores, the functions freeze() and thaw() that existed for Clists are sort of badly needed for the GtkTree/ListStore in GTK2.0, when you need to turn off viewing and sorting for a while, when adding a bazillion rows, and then turn it back on.
