I just checked, and:
- The md5sum of the .tar.gz and .tar.bz2 files
- the .md5 files in the FTP directory
- The md5sums in the gtk+-2.2.4 announcement
all match.
I suspect something went wrong with your download. You might want
to try a different FTP client.
