Sure, Jorge.
Your problem might not be in your own app, but in the way it opens the MySQL connection. In PostgreSQL, I used to run into similar problems until I added ";Encoding=UNICODE" to my connection string. So, what I would suggest you on doing is to search the MySQL documentation for the way to tell it you will use UNICODE strings to talk to it, not ISO-8859-1 or ISO-8859-15.
