Thanks Chris I suspected that was why I didn't have any luck working
with the TreeIter but now I know for sure I was heading in the wrong
direction.
Do you have any thoughts about what would be a more suitable attribute
to work with? Or maybe point me in a different direction.
Christian Hoff has some interesting ideas but I'm still in a collecting
ideas phase.
Thanks again
Andy

My first thought was to use the TreeIter stamp but that didn't work out
at all, maybe due to my lack of knowledge.
Actually, the stamp is an internal detail that is generated
automatically. AFAIK the only reason it is public is so if you were
implementing a TreeModel at a very low level you could generate them
in a way that makes sense to your application.
Anyway it would be best to treat that property as "no user-serviceable
parts inside."
