Gdk.Pixbuf pixbuf = Gdk.Pixbuf.FromDrawable(area.GdkWindow,
Gdk.Colormap.System, ...);
I haven't used this exact method, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
There also might be a better way that I'm not seeing.
