I agree with Eric that Gnome integration would be much better than no 
integration at all. Also, historically many of the now standard GTK+ 
widgets started their life as GNOME GTK+ extensions. For a recent 
example see:

http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/unstable/gtk-migrating-GtkIconView.html

So 'Gnome widget' does not necessarily mean 'GTK+ widget depending on 
the Gnome libraries', even less so when the developers of the widget are 
aware of the issue.
