So, I guess you are using gtkmm 2.6 and the problem is that you don't want
to use cairo yet. The gtkmm 2.0 documentation doesn't mention cairo but it
does mention other API that you don't have.

I really think you should use the documentation that your distro supplies
- it will match your version of gtkmm.
