Perhaps you have an old version of the library.

{
Gtk::Main m( argc, argv ) ;
Gtk::MessageDialog dialog( "Hello" ) ;
dialog.set_secondary_text( "World!", false ) ;
m.run( dialog ) ;
exit( 0 ) ;
}
Compiles and runs fine for me.
