There is also GtkImageView (no R) that's also intended to be a reusable image viewer widget: http://trac.bjourne.webfactional.com/. I have no idea what the differences between them are, but I thought I would mention that one as well. That one is also C, I believe, but you're unlikely to find one that isn't.
