I have a Shoei 800 helmet, which is much quieter than the 700 I used to
have. But I use earplugs too. The noise level inside any helmet at highway
speed is way too loud for safety. It seems that the damage from noise
exposure is cumulative, and one day you wake up with your ears ringing,
usually permanently . On my doc's advice I began wearing earplugs while
biking, riding on airplanes, etc., and I was able to reduce the tinnitus to
a tolerable level. Of course hearing loss also can occur.
You can get excellent earplugs from MFASCO (www.mfasco.com). Get MaxLite
no-cord earplugs, 17.83 for a box of 200. You can get similar ones in a
drugstore, but they cost much more.
