There was an exhaust canister kit listed on Brian Kearny's GTS page, carbon
fiber from Smith Brothers. Has anybody tried that ???? I do not want to go
buy it if there are going to be major problems, rather I want a bolt on.

Also, I prefer to stay with the basic config of the engine (EFI etc.).
However, how good are the heads ? Can some serious power be found in
cleaning up the heads ? I know the 5 valve head is pretty sophisticated,
but with casting flash, rough port walls etc., can any power be found there
? Some bikes come from the factory with minor head work, others are just
raw with only the machining for the valves and seats. Older big bore
Ninja's had hand-done head work from the factory, according to an old
article I read.

I like the power on my GTS just fine. Wouldn't want to change a thing!
Rheostatic power with good mid-range. Now, if you wanted to try some things
you would first have to open up the intake by getting rid of the airbox and
mounting K&N pods. To accomodate the new air intake you could increase the
injector duration by adjusting the pots on the EFI module closer towards 5
o'clock. Now that you've got the intake side opened up you'd need to replace
the restrictive exhause canister. What improvements this yields is anybody's
guess.

Well, I am personally NOT looking to reinvent the wheel. Either somebody
has kits to do it that have already been proven, or I do not do it. I
personally do not have the time to experiment on power mods. Kevin, where
are you ??? We need some feedback !!

Well now, this subject is very open. Power is determined by amount of
air/fuel
mixture and how efficiently it is burned. My first step would be to explore
the
limits of the EFI system. How much fuel can it efficiently handle, how much
air? Then the exhaust would be explored. Finally internal engine mods. I
wouldn't open the engine until the intake/exhaust systems were analyzed. If
the
intake is doing all it can now it won't make much difference what jugs you
stick
on the engine (assuming they are burning at max efficiency now.)
