David,

Its been a VERY damp 4 months winter - I found mould all over my body
panels and seat, and lots of white fluff forming on the alli parts,
despite a good dosing of WD40. I expect that rust has started to creep
under the internal parts (fuel tank, etc). My tools were also suffering
an attack of the brown stuff. A shrew has made a nice nest in my exhaust
(silly me - left it on the ground)

Would be nice to have a semi-detached or internal garage, that can be
kept warm and dry!

Been out in the cold this weekend putting my beast back together - still
a little way to go.

All in all a bad winter!!

I'm planning some trips in April - want to join me! (I've moved down to
West Sussex from Durham)

Subject: Damn Damn Damn corrosion

Hi,

Just been out for my 2nd ride of 2001. On my previous ride I was out for
2
hours and spent 2.5 hrs cleaning the bike, thus a 4 week gap to let our
British roads dry out a bit.

So I leave my bike all clean and dry in my garage covered with a thin
cotton
sheet sitting next to my old Suzuki. I come back to the bike this
afternoon
to find that the finish on the engine and front wheel has turned to
poo!!!!
Even the chain that was smothered in oil had little rust spots on
it!!!!!
:^(

I'm going to be taking off most of the plastic for the GTS when my new
body
panels arrive ( so later in June listening to your experiences). What do
you
recommend to a) clean this crap off my bike, b) treat the metal with so
that
it does not happen again, c) is there an all in one chemical?

Am I doing anything wrong with my storage methods?

Has anyone ever fitted sacrificial nodes to a bike? Does the list think
that
this might be a good idea?

Every bike in the UK was out today so the police were having fun. The
GTS
still gets a lot of puzzled looks when I stop for fuel etc.

Regards,

David
