Hello there,
I am in the market for some front end parts for the GTS. I live
in the USA, but I'm willing to pay overseas shipping if someone in a land
far, far away wants to sell me something at a good price. I'll even
consider buying bent/mangled parts, even if they are completely
unusable. The parts I'm specifically interested in are:
- Front wheel
- Front axle/hub
- Front brakes
I would also like to have an upright and swing arms, but only if
they are CHEAP - so if you have a bent one laying around that you'd like to
get rid of, please let me know. Also, if you have other miscellaneous
front end pieces (in any condition) like ball joints, I might also be
interested in those.... I would also consider buying a complete wrecked GTS
if the price was right... or even if it wasn't :-).
So if you have a half a caliper with a piston wedged in it, or a
worn/warped disc, or a pretzel shaped wheel, I'm the guy you want to talk
to - turn that scrap metal into a little pocket change! Of course, if you
have good parts, I'm also interested in those.
Completely NON-GTS-related info follows:
You might be wondering why I'd be willing to pay for unusable
pieces. I am in the process of building a tilting three-wheeled (TTW)
vehicle that I would like to use the above parts for. I can use
bent/broken parts for measuring/dimensioning so that I can continue with
the design of my vehicle, even if the parts aren't actually usable on the
road. My vehicle is similar to the Mercedes Benz LifeJet concept
vehicle. If this sounds intriguing to you, you can check out my project's
homepage http://www.geocities.com/siliconvalley/5300/trikes, Max Hall's
website (the center of the online TTW community) http://www.maxmatic.com,
the Millennium Motorcycles web site (their vehicles are very similar in
configuration to mine) http://members.iinet.net.au/~jsulman/tracer/, or
the VandenBrink Carver (which used GTS front end parts during development,
which you can see in some pictures on their website)
http://www.carver.nl/. Sorry... I'm not trying to advertise here or
anything, I just though some of you might be interested.
The primary reason I'm interested in the GTS is that the front
wheel is dished - this provides for space to put ball joints to create a
steering axis that is exactly (or nearly, in my case) vertical, when viewed
from the front. If anyone knows of another bike that has a dished front
wheel that is available here in the U.S., please let me know (I don't know
of any). I might also wind up using dished rear wheels on the front of my
TTW, but wide front tires on a motorcycle are not really a good thing
(messes up the steering/handling dynamics). I am trying to put together a
list of bikes that are available in the US which have dished front or rear
wheels, so if you know of one, please let me know so I can add it to my
list. You'll probably want to send replies off-list, since no one here is
probably interested (I don't mind sorting through dozens of duplicate
entries from different people, so please let me know what you know).
Sorry about the length of this email... I just thought I should
let everyone know what my intentions are, why I'm on the GTS list, and why
I want to buy your scrap metal. Incidentally, I'd also love to own and
ride my own GTS someday, when I finish this project and can afford it!
Finest regards,
-Brad Porter
