I've had this discussion with helmet manufactures. They say one Snell test
has a side impact and it's virtually impossible to prevent intrusion of the
hinge mechanism.

Oddly, they do approve open face helmets. Snell does some odd things, but
since it's the only game in town for real helmet testing, I generally prefer
Snell approval. I'd consider the Shuberth, though, based on European
approvals.
