i finally got bike on road again. yay. discovered that although brakes had
bench tested ok immediately following bleeding that rear pedal dropped flat
to floor. suspected air right away though never ran dry during bleeding but
several possible complicating factors:
one of speedbleeders on rear is funky. it does not seem to prevent backflow
during bleeding as evidenced by bubble flow of yesterday's bleed fest.
fluid just sort of swishes in and out. also, it did not apparently seal
fully following bleeding a few weeks ago. i caught that within a couple
days and tightened it up more and it seemed to hold better, but that again
is a potential source of air into system.
i do have the additional concern and queasiness that i may have somehow
buggered the rear piston while trying to adjust the pedal height setting.
previous setting was almost dead level and would always drag. so got lever
off ok, but trying to figure out how the thing meshed putting it back on, at
one point the toothed nubbin slid all the way into the frame and i don't
know if that fouled the piston. moreover, i'm not sure how i would be able
to check other than trying to rule out just regular air somehow into system.
(lever now on and moving too well.)
so, yesterday i ran in one liter of fluid and was still getting out lots of
tiny bubbles. when i let up and then pushed down vigorously it seemed like
i'd get LoTs of bubbles. since i've done flushing the brake lines all of
once and i didn't think there was any air in lines at the time to bleed, i
don't have _any_ sense of how much fluid it might take to really clean
things out. is it more like a liter or more like a couple gallons? is
there any effect of the lines going in and out of abs resevoir and system?
does HU need cycling? i'm not sure where to go with this thing. i know the
yamaha guy in santa fe is not knowledgeable about the GTS, (and is a
butthead,) so is rear brake stuff GTS specific with ABS or bike generic?
for that matter, is the rear brake unit the same as the one for the FZR or
the FJ?
i'm not sure how to tell how screwed i am which relates to not being able to
tell at what point i need to turn to "professional" help of unknown quality.
