I know I'm opening a can of worms but I'll ask anyway: Has anyone TRIED not
doing any chain PM - just adjust it as needed but otherwise ignore it?
Basis for the question: Last fall I did 4200+ miles on a dual sport DR650
in 18 days. Chain & sprockets were new (x-ring) to start. Were NEVER
oiled. Didn't need to be adjusted during the trip or at the end of the
trip. I would guess 5500-6000 it would need adjusted. Obviously the DR has
much less HP than the GTS but on the other hand conditions were much worse
than the GTS sees. Speeds ranged from <5 to 92MPH.
It seems to me that with o-ring chain all you're oiling is the
chain-sprocket contact.
