Hello folks. Well I finally took my first ride on my GTS. Wow!!!!!! What a
ride??? I had a blast. I'm really surprised at how well it handles(it
promotes deep corner braking). It's super stable & feels very light footed
for its size. The brakes have good bite & the ABS is functioning within
normal parameters. Thanks again to Kevin Hawkins for Lockhart tinted shield,
it works & looks great. Thanks as well to Terry Baker for his great article
on the ABS rebuild & again to Kevin Hawkins for making this article easily
available to everyone. On the engine side. Well, what can I say. It's really
shot. It had a hard time pulling 140kph, & I tried real hard. That was this
past weekend. On Mon. I started placing phone calls. I found that there are
no more FZR Wiseco piston kits in stock anywhere in Canada or the USA. There
is no production date available as of today either. The best estimate Wiseco
can give is a minimum of 4 to 8 weeks. (I waited on those very words aprox.
5 years ago for my FJ's 1314 pistons. It ended up taking 15 months before I
got my pistons & sleeves). So, I ordered the OEM oversize pistons of the FZR
1000. I also ordered & received a gasket kit & on the exhaust side I got a
Hindle SS header, which will be mated to a pair of Kevlar coated WMP
silencers. I looked into valves & have decided to stay with the stock ones.
The SS units are apparently inferior to the OEM units as far as durability
is concerned. The cylinder head will be getting a special porting job before
it's back in its place. E.T.A will depend on Yamaha (I got everything but my
Yam parts). So far Yamaha has been extremely efficient in their parts
availability. I'm hoping to be doing brake-in by the end of MAY. Provided
everything goes as planned. Ride safe& be good. Peter Piazza
