I've been across Hwy 50 a number of times. It's been called "The
Loneliest Road In America" due to the fact that's it pretty damn remote.
But, it's a really fun, scenic ride. I highly recommend the ride. And,
since much of it is at elevation, it's cooler than I-80. I'd avoid I-80
like the plague (boring) ... and I'd definitely ride Hwy 50 (it was once
very popular due to silver being discovered, I think, ... when the
silver dried up, many of the towns did ... which makes it a fun ride).
Oh yeah, there are plenty of gas stops ... that won't be a problem on a
GTS.

For those who have not ridden across Hwy 6 in Nevada, it's AWESOME! From
Ely to Tonopah, it's incredibly desolate ... I didn't see another vehicle
in either direction for over an hour. As you go E to W, you climb some
fun, long sweeping twisties up a mountain, then it's a straight shot down
into a breathtaking valley where you can open it to safe triple digit
cruising speeds. Then when you get across that valley, there will be
more sweeping twisties and another mountain awaiting you, followed by
another incredible valley. Just make sure that you fill your tank
completely full in Ely and/or Tonopah as it's 200 miles between towns and
it'd be a bitch to run out of gas (easy to do at high cruising speeds,
particularly with them big, ugly elephant ear type luggage that a lot of
you insist on mounting on the otherwise pretty GTS). Finally, slow down
in Tonopah as the speed limit's 25 mph (which feels like a crawl after
being at speed) and there are cops in town and they are out to generate
revenue.
