Yesterday afternoon, I got together with Dave Biasotti at his house in
Fremont, CA to remove the stupid "unleaded gas only" filler tube thing from inside my
gas tank. Dave had the gas tank off the bike and on his shop bench within 30 minutes.
After putting a plastic bag inside the tank to catch any metal debris (by simply
removing the fuel pump assembly from the side of the tank), he took a drummel (sp?)
tool and in short order the filler tube thing was out. After we (i.e., Dave)
reinstalled everything, we put approximately 1/2 a gal. of gas back into the tank (8
cups to be exact ... we guessed that 8 cups equals about a half a gallon, but we were
not sure). I rode a few miles to a gas station and put in ... (drum roll) ...
slightly OVER 5.4 gallons! And here's the best part, I didn't have to goose the gas
pump 20 times, continually wait for the gas level to recede, or have gas spew out, in
order to try to get 4.5 gallons of gas. (The most gas I'd ever been able to get into
my gas tank previously was 4.6 gals.) It's like a regular motorcycle gas tank now ...
you just fill it up right to the top. And it increases the fuel capacity
considerably. Thanks again to Dave Biasotti's GTS Mechanic School (btw, Dave totally
knows his GTS s**t ... big time).
