Upon review of my ticket, It was actually issued nearly two months ago (June
3rd) and the court still has no record of it. I'm crossing my fingers that
it somehow got lost. The court says they (CHP) has up to a year to submit it
though.
Also, I read the fine print on the back of the ticket. There are actually
instructions for pleading Not Guilty by mail, and Trial by declaration on
the ticket. Guess I never bothered to read it before.
Am I the only one who didn't know about this option?
The web site for San Mateo court also has instructions and forms. I guess
the main benefit of Trial by declaration is that the cop doesn't get didly
to fill out the paperwork, but gets 300-400 dollars to appear in a court
trial.
