That is why I am amazed to find that after 8 years, I am riding on D205s. I tried Metzelers, Pirellis, Michelins (yuck!) and probably a few others. The next best were the Metzelers and Pirelli Dragons, but by far and away the Sportmax's are the best combo of handling, tire wear and wet grip for me. I got stuck in LA with a worn out tire, and I threw the 205 on since it was all they had. It was a pure stroke of luck, and since then I have putting them on front and rear.
